About May Sahar

Contact May Sahar

I am a Wellingtonian, born and bred. Like many people from these shores, I worked and travelled overseas for several years in my 20’s, but Aotearoa New Zealand is my turangawaewae.

As an adult student, I studied at Victoria and Massey Universities, where I gained a B.A. (Psychology). Followed by a Diploma in Counselling at the Institute of Psychosynthesis. I worked for 2 years at Relationship Services where I began my Emotionally Focused Couples therapy training,  continuing on to become fully certified. Finally I became a member of the Association of Psychotherapists Aotearoa New Zealand when I gained my certificate in Advanced Clinical Practice.

I have now been working as a counsellor and therapist, with individuals and couples, for over 25 years. It was a vocation I came to later in my life, once I had fully embarked on my own journey of self awareness and growth.

I offer a safe and supportive space for you to explore your emotions, heal from past traumas, and cultivate healthier relationships. My approach is rooted in empathy, authenticity, and evidence-based techniques, to support you on your journey towards healing and growth.

I consult with a Clinical Supervisor on a weekly basis, which is an important aspect of my ongoing learning and development as a practitioner, and an ethical commitment to safe and best practice for my clients.
